Spring has sprung and the triathlon season is upon us! However, we also have a thriving time trialling scene in the north east. Last year I put together a post on how to get into time trialling. The season kicked off yesterday at Belsay with a windy day at the Hilly 21.

Cyclist riding a time trial bike in the base bar up the bank past Rothley Farm. Wearing the Tyne Triathlon Club skinsuit and a TT helmet.

In this post, I’ll highlight the best races for beginners and women to take part in. This will be mainly avoiding dual carriageway courses (except for one or two that are reasonably safe) and particularly tough courses like the long events in the Pennines and Borders.

Open events

Where the female entries are separated out, follow the link the that event. It’s the same event, on the same day, but the females will go off as their own group after the open category.
